The following document provides information about the terms and conditions to participate in one of the Tanzania Joy Volunteer programs as a volunteer or an intern, hereinafter “participants”. Everyone above 18 years of age, who is mentally and physically able, is allowed to participate in our programs. A maximum age limit does not exist.
After the participants chose a project, their registration is considered binding upon filling in the registration form on our website. Within a maximum of three working days the registration will be confirmed by Tanzania Joy Volunteer. After the confirmation, the registration fee has to be paid within one week. After the payment is received, we will provide the participant with our two handbooks with lots of information regarding their stay in Arusha with Tanzania Joy Volunteer. No later than six weeks prior to arrival the program fee, depending on the program duration must be paid.

Changes in prices
Tanzania Joy Volunteer has no influence on price changes by third parties; these have to be paid by the participants after proof provided by T J V. Tanzania Joy Volunteer reserves the right to raise prices and fees in cases such as increased food prices or utilities. This may only be subject to prior notice and will not be applied retroactively to already booked services.
In case you decide not to participate in the program after the confirmation has been made; the registration fee is not refundable. The program fee is refundable up to three months in advance by a 50%, up to six weeks in advance 25%, less than six weeks prior to departure there is no refund of program fees. If already in Tanzania and you interrupt your stay prematurely, there is no entitlement to reimbursement of costs already paid.
Cancellation by Tanzania Joy Volunteer
Tanzania Joy Volunteer reserves the right to dismiss participants who do not follow the rules set by Tanzania Joy Volunteer and/or the Tanzanian laws. In this case, there is no entitlement to reimbursement of costs already paid.
The project placement will be arranged taking into consideration the wishes and ideas of the participants as well as the ability and demand of volunteers/interns. Nevertheless, it must be considered that sometimes the projects may receive volunteers and interns from other sources. Therefore, in exceptional cases, it can happen that the desired project is not available. In this case, Tanzania Joy Volunteer will propose an appropriate and equivalent replacement project.
A project change is only permitted if justified, upon agreement with Tanzania Joy Volunteer. Nevertheless, the participants will have the opportunity, if discussed in advance, to participate in more than one project.
Office hours and reach ability.
The volunteer house is located on the same compound as the Joy Hostel. Suzan, the Coordinator, will be there from 9am until 8pm and will have dinner with all the volunteers daily. In case of any questions and worries she is the first contact person at the volunteer house. In case Suzan is not around, you can still contact her on her phone. Moreover, Clinton Kileo the owner of Tanzania Joy Volunteer, live nearby and will be there to help and assist.
Security & Disclaimer
The district USARIVER where the hostel is located is a local, but safe area. We are protected by a more than two meters high wall, a night guard . We offer safes for storing your valuable belongings. Nevertheless, Tanzania Joy Volunteer assumes no liability for any lost or stolen items from the hostel.
Accommodation and board
Depending on their wishes, our participants are accommodated at our hostel in shared rooms, with a maximum of two to four people. We try to separate the rooms by gender, but cannot guarantee this. If accommodation in a single room (surcharge) is desired, please let us know in the registration form. Furthermore, accommodation in our host family is possible.
The board in the accommodations consists of breakfast and dinner. Lunch will be provided in almost all projects. Breakfast consist of tea, coffee, bread, margarine, honey, peanut butter, jam as well as fruits and vegetables. Dinner are mostly typical Tanzanian dishes, nevertheless we also cook international food from time to time.
We expect the participants to observe the conditions lay down by Tanzania Joy Volunteer. This includes to keep the hostel clean and tidy, sometimes to help with the cooking, tablecloths and washing dishes. Bedclothes are provided and can be changed when needed; you need to bring your own towels.
