Be a part of 13 Days  Volunteer and Safari Program Tanzania and explore the country while giving something back to the community. You’ll be working at a childcare center in Arusha and also explore the city and places around. Of course, a trip to Tanzania would remain incomplete without experiencing thrilling wildlife game drives, and we’ll ensure that you get to spot the Big 5 as well. The 2 weeks you will experience and know more about the Maasai community experience the authentic lifestyle and create wonderful memories. Besides meeting the local community, volunteers will also meet other travelers, backpackers, and do-gooders from all over the world and maybe even find a partner to take a hike in Mt. Kilimanjaro! Tanzania Joy Volunteer Details itinerary Day 1 – Welcome to Tanzania

Arrival and Welcome for the volunteers. Arrival will be at Kilimanjaro International Airport in Kilimanjaro region. You will be welcomed by Tanzania Joy Volunteer staff on arrival. On the day of arrival, accommodation will be provided at Joyland Hostel in Arusha. meals included

Day 2 : SAFARI TO TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast we depart for Tarangire, Tanzania’s third largest national park and sanctuary for an unusually large elephant population. Majestic baobab trees are an interesting feature of the park, dwarfing the animals that feed beneath them. Animals concentrate along the Tarangire River, which provides the only permanent water supply in the area. There is a great diversity of wildlife including lion, leopard, and cheetah and up to six thousand elephant. Overnight two nights at Fanaka Campsite

Day 3: SAFARI TO SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK.

After breakfast you will drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to Serengeti National Park, enjoying game viewing and a packed lunch en-route. The Serengeti covers over 6,000 square miles of sprawling, unspoiled landscape. Add to that an extraordinary population of resident and migratory animals in a constant bid for survival, and you will begin to understand why this place is often called “the world as it was in the beginning”. As soon as you enter the park the wildlife viewing will begin! Search for leopards and lions and watch in awe as zebra, wildebeest appear from amidst the woodlands and plains. DAY 4: Full day in Serengeti Park game view 

You dedicate these two days to Serengeti National park and take a morning and an afternoon game drive in Serengeti national Park to look for lion, leopard, Elephant, Cheetah, Buffalo, Zebra, Wildebeest, Eland, Wild dog, Gazelles, Crocs and more. Lot of birds includes the Eurasia migrants. The Serengeti is probably the most famous wildlife sanctuary in the world, and it is recorded as the BEST number ONE wildlife area in the world where to see great number of animals. Within its 15,000 sq km area it hosts 3 million large mammals. More than 35 species of plain animals- zebra, wildebeest, eland, giraffe, and others are found here. And so for the big five: elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard and rhino. The park is the staging zones for one the most spectacular events in the natural world- the annual migration of wildebeest. This commences around June to August, possibly to witness then crossing at Mara River, when over 1 million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle head for the Maasai Mara in Kenya in search of pasture. They are followed closely by the predators of the savanna- lion, cheetah, wild dog, jackal, hyena and vultures. Dinner and overnight Seronera campsite

Day 5: SERENGETI TO NGORONGORO CRATER

We awake early to game drive through the Serengeti National Park. We then travel to the southern region of the Park where we have an opportunity to witness the endless plains this Park is famous for. We make our way across the Serengeti and into the Ngorongoro Conservation region at lunch time and start our ascension up the steep Crater’s rim. This evening’s camp on the crater edge harshly contrasts the warmer plains below. We encourage you to bring your winter clothes along due to the temperature drop at overnight at Ngorongoro samba campsite

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater Africa’s “Garden of Eden”

Early breakfast and drive the short distance to Ngorongoro Loduare gate and today you will explore today you will explore the famous Ngorongoro Crater during a wonderful game drive (with a picnic lunch) inside the Ngorongoro Crater often described as one of the wonders of the world.  It is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and a natural sanctuary for some of Africa’s densest animal populations. It is one of the few places where the rare black rhino can be observed in their natural setting. As very few animals migrate in and out of the crater with its 2000 ft. high walls, you can expect to see lions, elephants, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, many birds and other species. Day 7: The Chagga Experience – People of the Kilimanjaro

After breakfast you will be pickup from hostel and drive to slopes of mountain Kilimanjaro  to experience  authentic Chaga village. The Chaga are the third largest tribe of over 120 tribes existing in Tanzania, and most of them live on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. You’ll spend most of the day hiking to and visiting  waterfalls in the area but you’ll also get tons of information about Chaga culture, and the chance to make your own coffee from A to Z. Local style, of course! First on the planning is to visit the waterfalls. You’ll walk for about 45 minutes over narrow paths through lush vegetation. On a clear day you might see view of  Kilimanjaro, but even if you don’t we’re sure you won’t be disappointed. The scenery is stunning and your guide will give you a first introduction to Chaga culture and habits. There’ll be time to rest at the waterfall, or even a swim if you’re brave enough to face the cold water. DAY 8: DAY TOUR CHEMKA HOTSPRING

After pick up you will drive from your hotel or lodge you will drive direct to the Boma Ng’ombe (small town) then drive into roughly road till to this Maji Moto (Hot Springs in Swahili) this take 1 hour from Moshi and almost 2 hours from Arusha. Followed with a 17 km one way all flat passing the Massai village trails passing through the territory of the Maasai to the Hot Springs, The Maasai people are Tanzania’s tribal people who are still living in authentic fashion. Through the Maasai village which will brings you to a natural Oasis Springs which was formed by underground small river connection to this clear Oasis small lake in the middle of Masai land called the Hot Springs or Kikuletwa, you will have lunch and can relax and swim. You can also do some walking along the river. After all of the activity you will start back heading back to the transfer point here you will get transfer back to Arusha for overnight at hostel

DAY 9 – 10: VOLUNTEER AT ORPHANAGE CENTER

Volunteer at local communities and local school Bead Network and our head office operations and use it as your base for our school volunteers! As a volunteer, there are a number of ways you can help us make a difference to the village. Helping at the local preschool or school is core to this, but the combination of activities you choose will depend on your interests and skills:

  • Supporting the preschool teachers in children’s learning and play
  • Taking photos and helping to prepare newsletters, reports and artwork for sponsors
  • Monitoring the children’s health
  • Playing sport with school children
  • Teaching adults English, and
  • Providing tuition to Year 7 students who are preparing for their high school entrance examination.

Volunteer schedule for 3 days

On the first day of the volunteering placement, you will be escorted to the project by our local staff and introduced to the staff at the teaching project you will be working with.

Weekdays

Work and hours are dependent on the project and placement that each volunteer is working at. A typical volunteer day would be as follows: 7:30 AM          Breakfast at the volunteer house our hostel 8:00 AM          Volunteers leave home and walking to their placements. Volunteers are free to walk home for lunch at their accommodation, prepare for the next day or do some shopping and sightseeing. 8:30 PM         Dinner at our hostel

DAY 11 – 13: MAASAI TOUR & VOLUNTEER

After breakfast get off the beaten track and support the burgeoning growth of Maasai nature and cultural tour your expertise will be needed both in Arusha and in the villages.  Enjoy this unforgettable and authentic volunteering experience with an African Maasai tribe, immersing you in their daily routines and customs. Gain an insight into a real African tribe during your traditional home stay. Although becoming less common, the Maasai people try to maintain their nomadic and age old lifestyle, still wearing traditional clothing and using simple herding methods.
